Button makers are a great and simple tool to add to a makerspace. They are simple to use, easy to teach, and have a variety of uses. From sports pictures, birthday handouts, election tools, and more, buttons are a common tool letting users make quick custom items in quantities from a couple to a few hundred.

Button makers come in a variety of sizes and shapes. They also have a variety of backings making them very versitile. The pinback is the most common and obvious use for a button, but many can be paired with a magnet, badge finding, keychain, or clips for a multitude of applications.

Some of the most common brands of button makers today are:

  • American Button Machines
  • Brick City Button Makers

Button makers typically come with a punch that takes a predesigned and printed image and punches it into a round disc. This disc along with the button parts are added into a press featuring two dies, one for the front side, and one for the back side.
