Design Computers

Useful computers set aside with a set of software to create your custom designs.

Many spaces offer design computers in their labs so users can create their designs. These are considered different than a computer needed to operate a piece of equipment. These are specially set aside with the intent of being used for the design process.

Often paired with specialty and professional design software, these allow users who do not have access to these programs at home to have a chance to put their projects together.

Many spaces have dedicated Apple computers for this task, though many use Windows based machines for this purpose. Several key pieces of design software you may find are:

  • Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Affinity by Canva
  • Blender
  • CorelDraw
  • Fusion
  • Slicing software for 3D printing

A lot of times the software may be tailored toward the equipment the space offers, while other times it may include additional programs that aren’t directly usable on the equipment but relate to the overall maker movement or design in general.
